Description
“Form follows function - that has been misunderstood. Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.”
Frank Lloyd Wright
This Frank Lloyd Wright quote influenced me to name my painting “Form Without Function.”
The idea for it came to me years ago. One day I was walking home to my apartment. When I turned the corner of the building to go up the exterior stairs, I startled birds. They were eating crumbs off ground. As they flew up the stairs, I thought that would make a great painting. Years later I did paint it. To birds, the stairs have no function. In a birds point of view, stairs are a form with no function.
I was also influenced by surrealist. I feel the painting has a semi surreal look with some influence from one of my favorite painters, Edward Hopper.
